SPRING HILL, Tenn. (AP) — The General Motors Spring Hill Powertrain Plant has produced its 2 millionth Ecotec Engine.
GM officials said in a news release that the milestone was reached Wednesday.
The plant, 40 miles south of Nashville, has been producing the engine since June 1, 2002.
The facility supplies engines in North America for the Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR and Malibu, the Saturn Aura and Vue and the Pontiac G6; in Canada for the new Chevrolet Equinox & GMC Terrain; in Europe for the Opel Insignia; and in Shanghai for the Buick LaCrosse.

I don't know about y'all, but my 2.4 EcoTec engine and transmission are one of my favorite parts of the HHR...right up there with the styling. I especially like the fact that it has chain driven cams versus a "replace often" belt, it's smooth, and is pretty fuel efficient. Having only owned V8's my entire life, I am surprised by the power, especially the mid-range grunt. Chevy's choice of gears and willingness to downshift really compliment the engine as well in my book. If it lasts as long as folks say it will with care, then this may be one of my favorite engines I've owned - though there was nothing wrong with my past 440 Dodge or 5.0 liter Mustang engines. God Bless, marc
