Night Creature- 09-29-2007

Thanks Deb, I had a blast reading about this and I can't wait to try it on mine. Knowing me, I'll need a little help. But, I know where to find it. :2:

Here's something that Tony aka tcstoy did with his. I saw it when we met in Junction City, KS and it looked great. You might ask him how he did this.

I don't know that it would get a good safety rating. The center is from an old "lollipop" CB microphone. It is chrome mesh. Should leave a pretty design on my forehead if it ever deploys.

Someone over at .net has been looking for the controls for their HHR and here is what I found and posted there as well. He indicated there were several different color options on the covers (which to my knowledge was not the case in prior years) He's been having problems with the dealer telling him he had to buy the whole thing and basically been given the runaround. Below is my response to that thread. Have you tried gmpartsdirect.com...I just did and this is the part number they pulled up...it did not give any color options, just part number #15234337. I suppose you could do several things since they don't have a phone number there and here's a couple options. Contact customer service via their website. https://secure.gmpartsdirect.com/secure/customer_service/ Order both sides and they should come in the same color and problem is resolved I would think. Left Side Part #15234339 Please do not take these part #'s as engraved in stone, as I do not want to be held responsible for anyone ordering the incorrect parts, but this is what I got when I did a search for 2008 HHR and how it shows up in my shopping cart. *15234337 (Part #8) Steering Wheel Module COVER 1 $13.84 $13.84 $9.50 $0.00 $10.95 $24.79 *15234339 (Part #9) Steering Wheel Module COVER 1 $13.63 $13.63 $9.37 $0.00 $3.00 $16.63 Subtotal: $41.42 Hope this helps in some way. :thumb: It is quite obvious by the illustation on their site that the parts are available independent of one another, not requiring purchase of the entire steering wheel. So...whoever is telling you that you need to buy the whole thing is jerking you around in my opinion. See diagram below from their site.

Heck yeah, I'm gonna try this. Awesome mod!

Nepo- 02-08-2008

The parts I ordered for this mod arrived today. I ordered the same part #s from the how to: Part # 15234343* HARNESS Part # 15842365* SWITCH Part # 15234337* COVER from gmpartsdirect It may be because I have an '08 but I ran into a few surprises and I thought I would share them. The first was the color of the cover was a much lighter silver, not too much of a problem, I painted the covers to match. The next was the new wire harness did not have the wires in the same locations on the plug that connects to the cruise control switch. I plugged it in and had no cruise control. I had to swap the wires in the plug around to match the my old wiring harness. It works just fine now. Colors... Painted to match You push down the little tab in the plug and pull the wire/female connector out, then bend the tab back up and push it into the correct slot. I used a small flat head precision screw driver.

i am surprised that works. used to be you had to have a radio made for that for them to work. ie pontiac had radio controls in wheel and radios looked the same with all the same connectors but would not work.

Very cool Nepo and i want to thank CJ and Karen i just installed my CGS cold air intake and it was easy thanks again Karen for that mod and i thank you CJ YEEEEE-HAAAAA makes me want to put a wrench in my hand again

SMOKE- 02-09-2008

Glad things worked out for you Nepo...figured they might be a different color...they keep changing them. I'm sure other owners thank you as well for that info too. Lenny...look forward to seeing pics of your intake and hearing what you think of how it performs versus stock setup.

Wingfeather- 02-09-2008

I finally got my cover in (after a short time with buttons dangling from the wheel)... and it's silver :( It is a terrible contrast against all the dark metallic grey trim in my '08. Anyone find a spray can match for the matte dark metallic used on the interior???

Nepo- 02-10-2008

I painted mine with a few coats of Dupli-color DSFM225 ? Medium Charcoal Metallic from the local auto-zone. You can get it in a small can. I had to paint both sides. It it seems to go good with the interior.
