Hey John! ~ I really like your new sig banner: Friendly Family HHR Fun! That is so cool.

John- 09-28-2006

Back to original topic--- Just put the Autolite plugs in, and what an incredible difference. Yes, the car even sounds more aggressive. My son really noticed the difference too. Follow Up on Spark Plug Installation: After Mike (SoCalHHR) sent me the note about my old feeler guage I picked up one of those new round gauges and pulled one of the plugs. It was right on .042 so I must have got them real close with my “old” feeler gauge. It runs well, I don’t know if I can tell any big difference, but it did seem to idle a bit better, but that may just be in my head. I might be able to tell more this weekend when we go to the beach. I am glad I did it, I didn’t expect to notice a major change like when I put on the CGS but I am happy. I also learned a little bit more about the ECOTEC Engine. It is really very simple to get to things. I also put a thread in the "How To" section. It is not a complicated process but I thought it might be helpful to some of our members. Thanks to Mike for -*test*-('")ing out a number of plugs for the 2.4L. Now onto my next quest "Chrome" coverings for the wiring harness. I'll bet CJ can find me some. Going to take my wife and the HHR to the beach for the weekend so I'll see you Sunday Night. John

I have 10 bucks on good ole CJ on the corners... What a drifter he is.. Hmm Ford parts in a Chevy.. Waaaaaasup wit dat?

Lee3333- 09-29-2006

I know. But a lot of my hot rod friends use Autolite in their race cars (Mopar, Chevy, etc). And they use them in NASCAR. Seems like they are the hot set up. Besides seeing (or feeling) is believing!

All in fun...8) Great how to on the plug install John... Tom I know I was a bit hesitant to put a Ford Plug into the ECOTEC, but I just got back from a weekend trip to the beach and I did feel a difference. The HHR ran great this weekend and it did seem as though it would cruise along at 70mph on Interstates 77 and 26 much easier with a lot less downshifting. Also when I asked for more out of the little 4 cylinder it responded very well. I had no problem either jumping out into the fast lane or getting out of the way of the eighteen wheelers rolling down the hills. Gas mileage was about the same for the interstate 31-32mpg with the AC on. Thanks for the compliments on the "How To" is was a lot of fun and I wanted to give something back to the site for all the advice and help I have received. Made on an John

Hey Mike. Thanks for the research on the plugs. I was wondering which other plugs you -*test*-('")ed for the 2.4? Just curious. And yes, I do trust your judgement on the final answer...

welcome aboard Big n Blue glad you found us

I am getting ready to try the much written about Pulstar plugs. They are expensive but the theory is great-same electronics as the ignition wires. They increase the current to make a different kind of spark that is supposed to improve HP, milage, etc.

John- 08-25-2008

Lee Let us know what you find.

Lee3333- 08-25-2008

For sure

CJ N Shagy- 08-26-2008

do some research on them there were some bad reviews on them by customers having problems with them Laure and Bill bought some plugs like that and have been using them for a while. they also have an intake cover but have not been on in a while. i am using a/c iridiums that come standard on anything late 07 and they are great. love them

do some research on them there were some bad reviews on them by customers having problems with them snip snip i am using a/c iridiums that come standard on anything late 07 and they are great. love them cj... what kind of bad reviews... also.. anyone... is the 2.4 a double spark system (reverse spark on the exhaust strok)... and is the ignition system impedance balanced. if so how do you go about matching plugs to the system unless you use stock acdelco plugs. a friend asked me this morning... i don t know

CJ N Shagy- 09-02-2008

anything late 07 and newer all have Iridium plugs and are really good. i love them and so does the daughter. we had stock a/c delcos in the 05 and 06's i have no idea on the double spark and reverse spark go research Pulstar plugs and read some of the customer comments. there were enough comments on reliability and plugs going bad that i wouldnt personally use the Iridiums work great.

REDFLYR- 09-02-2008

spent a couple of hours looking around a couple dozen sites. most of the infornation and connments i saw were very subjective. one individuals comment on E3s turned into a cat fight between F C D and ricers. no informational value at all. the discussions saw on the Pulstars were mostly opinions... some of these guys would still be vorking with vacume tubes if they had their way... many of them comment just to practice typing. i don t think many of them ever heard of HEI (i use a Perlux in my blue wagon) or high energy coils. to them it seems a spark is a spark 20kv or 40kv from what the mfg claims... i would have no problem using them in older SB and BB engines... but with all the engine monitoring systems on todays cars I need more information. Iridium plugs were almost as confusing... serveral companies make them (ngk champion ac etc) and come stock in many new models... so it appears it becomes a product loyalty problem. there were no great claims other than logivity and that are generally good plug with the same claims of the different mfgs. one interesting thing on the Pulstar site... there is NO plug listed for 06 07 HHRs but there is for the 08. so they haven t been -*test*-('")ed or there is something different in the ignition systems. the double spark... normal spark on the firing stroke... a reverse polarity spark on the exhaust stroke to help clean up the exhaust gasses.... just don t know if the 2.4 uses this ignition system.
