Spark Plug Change
There is already a how to on the spark plug change for the 2.2 in the "how to" section. But I switched over to the Bosch +4's a couple weeks ago and took a pic of my old plugs once I removed them. This is what they looked like with 40K miles on them. vvvv I'm enjoying the new plugs. It's not a HUGE difference, but from someone that drives as many miles as I do, I can definitely tell the difference. A fairly inexpensive mod that I definitely recommend! CBL

thanks man. I'll be changing mine right away too

I dont think those plugs look bad for 40K but I'm sure your getting better performance from the new ones. :D

Guys, beware the service engine soon light coming on with non A/C Delco spark plugs. That will be the 1st thing the dealer will want to change out. Put the originals back in the engine if the light comes on before you take the car into the dealership ( if that is where you choose to have the car checked out ). Something about non A/C Delco spark plugs that GM cars just do not like.

i have had autolites in for around 25,000+ miles and Todd has had Bosch in his for prob 30,000+ miles the 2.2 likes the other plugs just fine

No issues here...but I will keep that in mind if my engine light ever comes on and I need to take it to the dealer. Thanks for the info chevyguy.

for the 2006 model year: Maintenance Replacement Parts Replacement parts identified below by name, part number, or specification can be obtained from your GM dealer. 2.2L Engine GM Part #12599232 ACDelco Part #41-981 2.4L Engine GM Part #12599232 ACDelco Part #41-981 for the 2007 model year: 2.2L and 2.4L Engines GM Part #12598004 ACDelco Part #41-103 Spark Plug gap for both years, both engines, auto or manual: 0.040 inch or 1.01 mm This is from the 2006 and 2007 owners manual, knowing GM their is probably new part #'s. Personally I have found the GM product to work best in the vehicles. You could try something else but save the old ones for just in case. Also, since you are doing it yourself, their is no reason why you could not change out the spark plugs every 30 or 40 or 50,000 miles. Electrical resistance, burning temperatures, spark and whatever else plays a part in the combustion process and it is all designed into the GM plug for the GM car, they just overall work better. If you have emissions -*test*-('")ing in your area ( which is being slowly phased out for all OBD2 -*test*-('")ing ) non GM spark plugs could actually affect those readings and possibly a failure sticker.

No codes here.........
I've had 2 "other" sets of sparkplugs on my car already. 1st I installed the Platinum Bosch plugs that everyone was putting in the 2.2's at about 1000 miles..... Then when I switched to the nitrous setup I had to go with plugs that were a couple steps colder. I installed Zex plugs that were specifically designed for when you "hit the button" at around 15000 miles and no codes here....On another note.... I had problems with my coil pack going out and the mechanic tried to blame the Bosch plugs on the failure....Regards

chevyguy- 04-11-2007

Well, can't say anything about nitrous as I have no experiance with it. I do have experience with coils and it is not all that unusual for them to go bad occasionally. If the repair was at the dealer and the tech trying to blame the Bosch spark plugs, that does not surprise me, especially if you were still under warranty. Usually plugs give a driveability problem, don't usually affect another ignition system component, but I suppose anything is possible.

CJ is right in one regard, I am running the Bosch +4's, but I put them in probably closer to 40K miles ago and never got a check engine light. It definitely gave it a lil pep too. Happy camper here! CBL

Hi Guys, Well I am not saying it always happens with non GM spark plugs, but just keep an eye out, if the light does come on make sure the gas cap is on tight and have someone check for codes and see what develops.
